the belt tensioner for the water pump does not seem to have a lot of pressure holding the belt. the tensioner is not stuck at all, and the spring is operating fine from what i can see. i just want to know if anyone has had problems with the belt or tensioner before?

Pretty light pressure on the WP belt. Since the WP is the only load, there is not a lot of tension needed to keep it the belt from slipping. If the tensioner spring moves freely and pulls the slack out of the belt, it should be OK. Thermostats are pretty common replacement parts, so replacing from an auto parts place should be fine. Why pay/wait for dealer confused

Yes or no? when replacing the WP, you should also replace the thermostat.

You'd be amazed at how much the tensioner may be slipping. Take the belt off and see if you can move the tensioner by hand. Even if you can get it to budge then the tensioner is getting worn, time for a new one. Been there, done that.

the pump, thermostat and belt are done. the whole job took less than one hour with the battery removed. the problem was the plastic impeller was spinning on its axle. the engine is now home to a water pump with a metal impeller. i have taken digital photo's of the job, but i do not know how to post them to my signature. if anyone would like to see them, send me a private message and i will mail them to you. laugh
