frown I've replaced the bulbs for my fog lamps but wished I could find whiter - brighter bulbs.
I like the factory look and really don't want to change it...
Is there a way to change what type of bulb without melting the factory housing or lens?

If so, how difficult is this to do? confused

I'm thinking it's going to be more trouble then it is worth - replacing the bulbs is a pain in the (well ya know)!!! mad

Hey.
You're right. It would be more trouble than it's worth. My lenses were yellowing, so I thought I'd just change out everything and put new ones in. It took about 4 hours for 1 and half an hour for the other, since I knew what I had to do.
If you go the new route, make sure you have a dremel. It's infinitely valuable here.

Or just get brighter bulbs!!!

Either way, enjoy!

Stock bulbs put out like 35 watts for the fogs. You can pick up Sylvania or just about any brand of bulbs rated at 50 watts to improve brightness while keeping stock look. Get 'em at Walmart or wherever.

The 50w bulbs are # 8085 iirc. I switched back to the 35w bulbs because the 50w bulbs partially melted the lens and caused it to bulge outward.

I put the Sylvania 55w bulbs in, and carefully re-aimed them because the factory setup wouldn't allow them up high enough to be effective. I had to cut the little spring in the adjuster mechanism to give me more range. As for melting the lenses, well, I'm firmly of the opinion that these lights (and all like them) should only be used when they're necessary, like on a dark road when in motion, and when you do that, the lenses won't melt. If you use them in stop-and go situations you're not getting airflow on them and they may melt the lens, but guess what...you're also probably in a city situation where you shouldn't be using them in the first place.

In any case using high-watt bulbs and a re-aim was a less-than-$10 solution that made the lights infinitely more effective. There is no comparison to the way they were before and i didn't have to shell out for PIAA's or Hellas.
