I purchased a Super Chip from SPmotorsports for my 99 SVT Contour. I installed the chip myself and everything. Worked great for about 1 week and a 1/2. I was sitting at my friends house when all of the sudden my car just died, it kinda concked out. Nothing was working, i would turn my key and it wouldn't turn over, nothing. My radio would go off though when i turned the key. My lights would work, everything would but my car would not start. Everything came into mind, "Alternater, Battery, we even thought that some kind of after market alarm might have been on there". Took it to Ford and they said it was my computer, they said nothing about the chip until i finally confessed and my warranty was gone. They say that it was the chip. I talked to Super Chip and they said that they have never heard of a chip burning out a computer. Please help, does anyone think it was a freak accident or it really was my chip!? I want another one so bad, what would you say?

OH MAN that sucks big time , I would think it was the chip if it was me . I really dont hear of computers going bad much .but you never know

Did you try removing the chip and trying again?

PS NEVER remove a chip with the key in the ignition. It'll wipe the PATS memory form your ECU and your ECU will have to be reprogrammed again to accept the keys. i.e. the car won't start.

Hey man I had the same thing happen to me 2 weeks ago! You turn the key to the ignition and everything comes on lights, air, radio and then you turn the car over and nothing happens and the radio blinks out and back on. We tore everything out of my car and it was nothing. Until we checked the engine ground. The engine ground is grounded to your battery, so make sure your engine ground is clean and it is still there! Take it off and clean it and make sure the terminal is clean. After I did this, my car started right up! My car was originally stuck at my buddies house overnight.

Clean the PCM terminal again where the chip plugs in. Very common problem with new chips - just the slightest amount of coating left behind can incapacitate your car.

Chips don't void warranties either, unless it's installed incorrectly. That's just a dealer cop-out. First think I would have done is pull the damn chip. It's probably loose, or something. As others have said, could be a contact issue. My wife has accidently kicked the PCM while we where driving and it killed the engine. Turn it off, jiggle it, and it started back up fine.
