Man I hate them !!!

I've been reading some for the Contour. They always seem to be by people who buy a used Contour, don't check it out first, make no maintenance and then [censored] that it's Fords fault !!!

I read one about 2 weeks ago about this guy who drove his for about 2 weeks with the CEL on. THen the engine seized and he had to dump it !! Of course that's all put down to Ford's build quality, nothing to do with the fact that some stupid dumb a$$ doesn't recognize a warning light when he sees one !!

Also noticed that most Pontiac reviews are buy people who say good things like 'always change the oil regularly', 'regularly maintained it', 'had a problem but got it fixed right away' (not driving 2 weeks with it).

The import cars seem to revolve around all the problems they have, but that's okay because the cars great.... 'owned the car 3 months, had to replace the clutch and flywheel. No worries she drives way better now and I'm happy.' That sort of thing.

From people I know too, they always [censored] about their Fords. I had one buddy who complained constantly that his brakes weren't working properly on his Taurus. Took his car for a spin and told him to get his pads replaced and check the rest of the braking system out. He didn't and ended up driving off the road as his' brakes failed. All he did was [censored] about Ford's being crap !!

In my experience, first hand, second hand, and third hand, it takes a 'special' kind of person to buy a Ford car. There really don't seem to be many of us who own one and actually know how to take care of our cars !!

Well....rant over now, what are your views ??

Thanks,

Rabbit.

P.S. Did you know that people really chose NOT to buy a ZX2 PURELY because of the small cup holders !!! Is that any kind of reason !!!

I agree with you, but, many of my friends are buying foreign because they are tired of having stupid s**t going wrong with their "American" car. I personally think that all cars will give you headaches at one point or another, but have fun paying big $$ for replacement parts, especially on Jap cars!!

He he, I agree.

One of my buddies recently traded in for a VW Jetta Turbo Diesel because it's cheaper. I told him what he saves on gas he'll spend on parts !! Especially as it's a 91, covered in rust. It may only be surface rust, but he won't know until he checks, and I doubt he will.

All cars suffer from similar problems. Clutchs and transmissions are always weak points no matter the make. Electronics have been proven a little problematical ever since they were introduced. Power windows, well they ALWAYS have problems of some kind in their life.

I think somehow that a lot of the newer generation of car owners expect them to be trouble free and never break. This leads to bitching and 'the grass is greener' view of imports.

This statement pegged my "tru dat" meter. I've found that if you ask the open-ended question "which brand of car would you recommend" you'll get a different answer from everyone. Some will say "Ford sucks buy Dodge", others "Dodge sucks buy GM", and still more "American cars suck, buy [European|Japanese]" and so on. For you math majors, the formula is "X sucks buy Y" where X and Y are any manufacturer or country/region.

Opinions are like @$$holes, everyone's got one. Buy the car you like but don't be surprised when it needs repairs 100 miles after the warranty expires. Stick with that philosophy and you'll be happy

Absolutely true!!! I just spent two weeks going out after work everyday with my girlfriend because she wanted to get rid of her Alero (p.o.s.!!) and buy something "reliable".Her choices?? Honda Civic EX and a Toyota Corolla S. Both nice cars, but I shudder when I think how much repairs will cost....She decided after all the arguing we did between three car dealerships to hang on to her car for awhile because she was tired of arguing with dealers over prices- Japanese or American that part will never change "haggling" with the Salesman

I love haggling with the salesmen !!
It's amazing what great deals you can get !!

I got my Mystique in a great deal after about 2 days haggling.

Original price = $11,000 CDN

Haggled down to about $7,500 CDN with a 96 Escort Station Wagon traded in for $6,000. Leaving only $1,500 to pay.

Full rust proofing carried out.
ALL fluids changed, including MTX.
Both front brakes given new shoes.
New headlights.
New battery.
New tires all roung - we haggled over this and ended up with named brand on the front only.
Handbrake cable replaced with new one.
Full tank of gas of course.

The water pump (V6) was replaced on a test drive too.

I should have asked for plugs too, I relized that not long afterwards.

Funny thing is, when I got down to this deal my wife got pissed with me as her ex-husband always used to get mats and flaps thrown in. They got added too though.

All in all I was happy with the extras, although my wife still gripes that it's a manual though.

Freakin women!!! I bought a Mustang 5.0L "back in the day" with the stupid AOD slushbox because my son's mother complained "I can't drive a standard!!"....Two bad decisions! One was buying a Mustang with an Automatic (hello 3:73's and a B&M Transpak!!) and second was hooking up with my ex (hello Probate court!!)
