I know this is a Contour site but my other car is a 92 Taurus and I need some help. It is a 3 litre auto and one of the problems I have is that the engine "surges" when the throttle is released while driving. When I take my foot off the gas pedal the engine will almost stall ( the oil pressure light will flicker) and then rev to above idle. It seems to do this when ever I drive down a hill or come to a stop. Can anyone offer any suggestion? Perhaps a Taurus web site? confused

IAB (Idle Air Bypass Valve)or whatever it's called on the SLO).

It's an electrically operated valve on the throttle body. It serves as the dashpot of olden days, and also is used to regulate idle by opening and bypassing the throttle plate.

The one for my 93 Exploder cost around $50 at AutoZone and fixed a fast idle/surging condition.

Try cleaning it before you replace it.
