i recently bought a new shift knob for my MTX and upon installation realized it would not fit due to the reverse lock-out. after looking into it and seeing exactly how the reverse lockout functions, i said f*@! it and just removed it to put the new knob on. of course, this means the stock shift boot no longer fits, so i shined up the shift rod and there is currently about 1.5" of the rod showing before the shift boot covers the rest. I actually like the look of it, but my question is does anyone have ideas to make it look more like a race setup, possibly a very short shift boot or something flush with the console and then just have the chrome rod look going. ANy ideas or suggestions?

If you could find someone with machine shop skills, have them make you one of those gates found in Ferrari and eliminate the boot all together. If you did this you would be the first one to do it, I think Good luck to you!

Roger, it wouldn't work as our shifter mechanism is too sloppy, unlike a Ferrari that is extremely precise with no play in the shifter.

I think a shortened boot would work.

IIRC Krafty was selling them on the forums.

Yes it was Krafty that was manufacturing them and selling them. He did excellent work and you'd be qutie happy with his stuff. I think he even did custom jobs, where you choose the colour of the boot and the colour of the stitching too. I believe he had colour matched leather for the SVT blue interior too.

I have Krafty's shift boot as well as his e-brake boot. He installed them last month as well as my B&M short throw and let me tell you the boots are VERY high qualtiy, as was the installation of the boots and shifter...thanks Krafty

Thanks for all the support and good words guys!

If you are looking for a short-length shift boot w/ or w/o custom stiching, drop me a PM and we can work out the details. If you would like to do a little research first, check out the link in my sig!

Thanks again!

Like Stazi said, you can't do the gated shifter, I tried. Though the reason seemed more to me like the location of the plate that would be needed on the console, i.e. down low where the bottom of the boot and the plastic trim ring are. The slots you'd need for 1,3,and 5 on a gated pattern actually overlap due to the width of the shifter itself. I have a stainless steel plate being made right now (if the s.o.b. ever cuts it out..long story) with an oblong hole in it (instead of gated) that I plan to use with just a smalll portion of boot sticking above the hole. I have the B&M as well, so maybe this wouldn't work well with the stock shifter.

after thinking about it, i'd likely get solid black. question: will the b&m shift boot fit the steeda shifter. the steeda is supposed to be shorter than stock and higher than b&m. does the b&m boot have a little "slack".

is the ebrake boot only for the stock one. would it fit aftermarket ebrake handles (does the richbrook fit)

There is slack to the B&M shift boots, though I'm not exactly sure if it will fit the Steeda shifter or not. If you purchase one and it does not fit, you could ship it back to me free of charge and I will make a new template if needed.

The e-brake boots are exactly the same size and shape as the OEM boots, so if the Richbrook fits under the OEM it will fit under the new boot.
