I am going to get my windows tinted (probably) next week. Anyone know what the percentages are in NY?

According to this chart, NY has 70% as the limit for front side windows (basically nothing darker than the factory tint glass. http://iwfa.com/iwfa/Law_Chart/State%20Law%20Chart.htm

Does 70% light transmission equate to a 30% tint ?
If it does, then I don't think the factory tint on the side and rear windows is 30%.

No, the 70% refers to light transmission. 35% would be darker and 5% is limo. 70% is factory tinted glass (damn near clear).

I got my windows tinted with 35% about 2 weeks after I got my car. I was told by the guy that 35% is the lowest you can go before the cops really start busting your chops. I've NEVER had anyone tell me to take it off in the two years i've had it.

My fiance has her jetta tinted at 35% and was actually pulled over for it, The cop was a local so she flashed her PBA card and he gave her the speech about it being illegal  Her car is black so the windows look even darker. If your suspicious when driving thne it would be a good excuse to pull you over but when i had my T/A thye never pulled me over for it and i had limo tint. I wouldn't worry about it.

A guy I work with has 20% on his '02 Maxima and I think it looks pretty tight.
I heard that you can have 5% in the back, if both side mirrors work, but that the front windows can't be more than 35%

I have my whole car done at 15% for the last three years and have never had a problem.

How is that stranger? I already mentioned about the 70% for the front side windows. If anyone in NY ( or any state) wants tint darker than the legal limit, the tint shop will not hand a receipt for the tint job they do and they will only take cash. In other words, they can deny doing the work if questioned by police.
