Hi gang,

I am looking to outfit the SVT with a new head unit and have always bought Alpine for the last 6 years or so. I am really interested in the 7998 model with the flip up face and din-1/8 display. Problem is that I am a new Ford owner and for the life of me don't know why they put the horrible plastic lips above all the stock radio locations.

I have done some searches and read that some forum members had installed these units but had to do a little bit of install modifying to get the face to flip up without rubbing or catching the lip. So before I buy this unit I was curious if someone could post/show pics of how much trouble this install is or if I should steer clear of this head unit on the Contour.

Thanks,
Bob

Yeah the 7995 is next on the list if I can't fit the 7998. I basically just want it to play MP3's....I would like to not have to detach the face every time I leave the car too, hence my interest in the Phantom Face series.

How is the ID3 tag display on the 7995? does it scroll real nice and display long file names?

Yes and yes... Its a great deck. I had the 7998 in my SHO . Loved it but i wasn't about to modify my SVT just to make it fit.
The MP3's scrolling is great. all around i would give the deck a 4 1/2 stars out of five. I think for the money they could have made a better display but ohh well.

So if I were to get the 7998, I would need to mod my SVT? Why is that?

The 9815 is pretty new and looks to have better ID3 tag viewing. Anybody seen this in action?

hey. i have the 7897 in. it doesn't really take any moding. just need to install the sleeve out a little bit. hard to explain. when it's open (on) you can't see the sleeve at all due to the oversized display. when closed (off) you have to really look at it to see it. it's an amazing unit. i like the display on it better then the 7998 (i don't exactly like the black and white). i'll see about getting some pics up or at least emailing them to you. like i said, it's a great unit!

Hey thanks, I appreciate that. I was wondering the exact same thing, how it would look if I installed it a little farther out than normal.
