My power door locks have always done this strange thing... they lock without notice by themselves. This has locked me out of the car several times with the keys inside. The Dealership is baffled. Any ideas?

Has the door every been apart before?

I had a body shop put a screw through the wire bundle during reassembly and it caused all kinds of weird things.

my car does that too....if the key is in the ignition (and turned on) if i get out the car and let the door close im locked out...now if i have my windows down it never seems to do it naturally

actually i thought it was part of the design...to lock the doors automatically when the key is on or the engine running....

i got locked out twice...once trying to take my g/friend to work one morning...was wiping off the windows and let the door close...with the engine running...she was trapped in the car for hrs eek laugh ...thankfully the window was cracked and we found a piece of wire in the garage and i was able to mc guyver the wire to hit the window switch and get the door open

the second time was at the car wash but my trunk was open so i let the seats down and climbed through and opened the back door.....not as easy as climbing through my 16v gti

now i carry the spare key in my wallet

If it happens when the engine is running, it is NOT the remote keyless entry. It is disabled while the motor runs. How do I know? Left the car running on a cold morning to warm up, went inside and took the remote with me and locked the doors. The remote would not open the locks. I had to run back inside and grab the spare key to manually unlock the door to get in.

I have had the same problem with my 95 Contour GL. I've been locked out after I start the car and get out to clean off the snow. I can hear the pwr locks moan and lock me in. Really bad. It really is a safety issue - what if your infant/toddler is locked in?

I always thought it was my fault - I had an aftermarket remote start and entry system installed and figured that was acting up. Sounds like that is not the culprit. Ford should address this...

Has anyone had luck fixing this problem?
