Any of you guys blown a rod on a 55K zetec? Cos my engine just blew up!

Just driving on the motorway at about 85MPH, no previous engine problems, glitches nothing, she started making a funny noise, then just blew, smoke, flames, oil everywhere!

None of the guys on the MEG forums have heard of this happening before!

On topic:

Someone else here blew their motor not that long ago! eek
It may have been your water pump but I thought that there would have been some warning prior to the death of your motor!
I'm assuming that you service and check your motor often!

How often do you change your Oil and Filter and what type of oil and filter were you using ?

Some of the Motorcraft filters are having problems holding pressure.
Have a mechanic check the oil filter to see if it is blown out.
That would explain a sudden loss of oil pressure, and the demise of your rod.

i dont have a ztech i have the duratech but mine spun like 5 rod bearings and started hammering louder than the radio went when i was racing a vr6 taking the rpms up to like 6500 every shift. that was at about 58000 miles. mad

Hmmm same old same old, although all the roads are crap due to the local government screwing up their budget for the 5th year running.

That and the usual winter weather and its fine!

No known coolant problems, water pump ok, thermostats working fine.

I change oil roughly evey 6K, had just changed the oil a couple days previous using Ford's 5 30, was using this to flush engine clean (it had allready been changed 2 times previously in the last 2 months).

And I use a Piper Cross Oil filter.

Still completely dumbfounded to why it happened, but think it may have been a rod bolt shearing.

Not usual on a Zetec,but the caps/rod bolts are the weak link on the bottom end but they are not the same mtl as Duratec...sounds like a spun end or,with smoke etc a piston break up...good luck with repairs..TH
