What could be wet after a month after my top radiator hose broke and spewed water everywhere under my hood?

I have dried about everything I can think of.
The plug wires are only 50K old and don't appear to have any cracks.

I'm stumped.

The distributor module is close to where the hose connects to the block and probebly got pretty wet. It looks pretty solidly built and I don't see how water could get in it and cause problems.

The car idles OK and really only misses when under a load like acceleration. It is pretty bad!

Did you have any problems before the coolant hose broke? If not, and the distributor was sprayed with coolant then change the distributor cap. The coolant could have left a residue when it dried that is conductive on the distributor cap.
If so, the spark could be conducting to ground and not through the higher resistance wire.

Where is the distributor cap on a 4cyl tour? frown

I don't know that he is actually talking about a contour at all. I'm just going by the information that he has given. I know the v6's don't use a distributor. Not sure about the 4 cylinders.

My guess is that he is still talking about the tour!

I said that the distributor MODULE got wet!
There is not a distributor with a rotor, points and all those things obviously. Hasn't been one of those on a car in quite a while.

When I figure it out I'll post a new topic!

It is probebly a plug wire.
I just don't want to go buy a $52.00 set and have it be something else!

pull each plug wire one at a time and blow out the plug hole with compressed air to remove any water, also blow out the end of the plug wire to remove any water residue there. check each plug wire boot on the outside to see if there is a white powder residue that usually indicates the plug wire is shorting out to the side of the motor. if you want to identify exactly which plug wire is shorting, turn off the engine, pull one plug wire, start the engine. if that is the shorting plug, the car will run the same, if it not the shorted plug, it will run much, much worse. after you identify which plug wire, you can concentrate on fixing it instead of not having a clue as to your next move. if this works, i need a rating boost!!! cool

Also,

Check the "computer connection" to the coil pack. (Near the thermostat on the Zetec, for the uninformed V6 owners.)

It is possible that you have a wet connection there, so the coil isn't getting a reliable signal to fire.

FWIW,

TB
