ok im not car smart, in fact im pretty much a moron, cause i just got my first car. So deal with me when i talk about this cause i dont know any names!

alright this problem first happened in december, around chrismas or so. Anyways,i was accelerating from a red light and the line from my gas pedal to the throttle SNAPPED! i have no clue how this happened. My stepdad tells me something held the cable back, fun stuff. So now my car is ghetto rigged with some fishing line crap. can anyone tell me whats the possible culprit of this? maybe even a way to tighten the line (mines loose and i dont get that much acceleration) any help would be appreaciated, and if im not making sense tell me

If you've ever seen the brake cables on a 10 Spd. or mountain bike, thats what your throttle cable looks and acts like. When you step on the gas pedal, it pulls the inner wire of the cable while the outside covering stays fixed. If your cable actually snapped/broke, ask a reputable mechanic to replace it. I don't think this is a common failure on contours, so I suspect your throttle body may be gunked up and sticking or there is a problem with your throttle linkage. The cable will probably be $100 or so to replace. The throttle body and linkage are pretty easy to access and work on, so I wouldn't expect to pay more than about $100 to get it cleaned up and operating properly. Please post if you have a 4 or 6 cylinder engine.

You didn?t mention the year or engine. Some tours were recalled because of a bad crimp on the throttle cable. You should check your recalls to see if your car is one of them.
If it isn?t, you can buy a new cable and change it yourself for about $20-30 or bring it to a mechanic (not the dealer).

There is a Recall on the Accelerator Cable.

Take it to your DEALER.
