I'm interested in dropping in a manual transmission into my 95 SE. I think I can get one from a junkyard and then rebuild it... but I don't know if it is going to be worth the trouble. So anyway, to put in a short shift 5 speed into my Duratec V6 24V DOHC is going to be a lot of work and I don't know if it's going to be worth it. Opinion? And do they make a tranny that mates to this engine? Or would I have to be creative?

I'm going to assume that you now have an AUTOMATIC transmission and that is why you want to drop a Manual transmission here.
There are a LOT of posts in this group covering the subject of transmission swapping. To go from Automatic to Manual requires a lot of parts, and it is just easier to buy a Contour with a Manual transmission that has a blown engine and swap over your engine.
I'm not saying that it can't be done, but it does require a lot of parts and a lot of time. If you have a lot of time on your hands, and you are making this a project car, then by all means go and try it out and let us know how you did.
The only Manual transmission made for the Contour is the MTX-75.

A lot of parts AND money. Its estiamted for the price you spend on swaping,(even if you did it yourself)the cost would be near or eqivalent to the price of buying a MTX contour with a V6. Anoth thing you have to look at is the transmission. Weather its a Cable or rod shifter. Cable is better than rod, but neither will bolt up to every engine.
I know they are bot year dependat. A 95 cam with rod shiter. But im not sure if there engine dependant.
In the long run its more tourble than its worth....but it would make a good side project if you have time and money.

it's not as bad as you think. You need to swap the front subframe, and axles, but it can be done with all the parts for $2k. cheaper than buying a new car.
several cougar guys have already done this swap...

If it was that cheap, we'd all have done it already... I think its a lot more than $2,000.

I have to agree with roadRunner.....The way i priced it our, its parts and labor if you were to go to a shop to do it.
Id say your looking near 6 grand atleast....sub frame swaping is not cheap from my understanding.
Again my estimates is if you do not do it your self.... for 6 grand you can buy my friends 1999 SVT-C for 5400 and still home money left over to mod it a little.
These cars do not have a high resale value when someone is privately selling it....Dealers just mark it up a hell of a lot.
but if you do it, and its cheap..Props to you...and then spread the knowledge....but IMHO i belive cheap is impossible.

Yes, $2K will get you all the parts including tranny. You don't need the PCM, the automatic PCM works fine (90% sure of that)
here is one thread on NECO of many.. search people!!!
any doing this of course gives you a great opportunity to:
work on your engine
replace front motor mounts with poly bushings or solid mounts
new clutch, new flywheel
fit an LSD in the MTX
replace front swap bar bushings
among other things.... it is definitly the way to go
