How does engine pinging sound?

I know the theory, but would love some colorful description of how engine knocking/pinging sounds like.

Sounds like your teeth chattering when you accelerate. (Rapid clicking sound)

Would happen if:

1) Engine was running HOT.
2) Cheap (low octane) gas.
3) Engine timing was not set correctly.

Thanks.. Sounds like what I am experiencing. 2k duratech aut 30k miles. I have no CEL, should I be overly concerned? The rattling sound is very faint and only occurs when depressing throttle slightly before the atx downshifts from OD. 2-3k range then it is gone.

I put 92 octane, 1 bottle of fuel system cleaner and cleaned my MAF (possibly over oil k&n) and it is still there.

Time to take it to the DEALER? or wait till I get a CEL?

Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated!
