I have a 96 gl and the battery light came on for about a day and a half before the battery died. So the first thing I did was diconnect the battery and the car shut right off. Then I took out the the alternator put in a new one problem still existed. So then I took the original alternator to a shop and had them test it, it was still good. Then I took the battery to be tested and it was good so I put it back in. But the light was still on. So me and my buddy ran a wire from the alternator to the battery directly and the light went out. Any body have any ideas what could be the problem from the back of the alternator to the battery. And one more question where do we get the light bulbs for the door handle compartment.

I believe that one of the cables off the Alternator is a fuseable link.
If that wire is blown, it will need replacement for the alternator to charge.

Also, it is a bad thing to disconnect the battery while the engine is running.
The internal resistance of the battery is a major component of the charging system.
Disconnecting it while the engine is running will cause a voltage spike that could fry your PCM.
