I just bought a set of 205/55R16 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's for my wife's 98 Tour. The problem is that the dorky spring collars that Ford put out a recall for rub on the new tires!

I mean, WTF!?! That is a standard size for the SVT! And I had 215/50R16 KDW's on that very car before the spring collars were installed, and I had no rubbing at all.

Should I insist that the dealer do something to permit my stock-size tires to work on my car, or do I have to take it upon myself to remove the offending pieces?

Anybody else run into this???

I took mine off in the parking lot of a very expensive bed and breakfast we were staying at outside of Lime Rock Race Track in Connecticut. The good part was talking with a guy who restores Rolls Royces and another guy with a Porche 356 Speedster watching what I was doing and talking car stuff.

The cups rubbed on my Bridgestone Potenza SO-3s and actually scored the meat of the tire. The worst part was when I ould hit small bumps and the tire would flex upward causing the cup to slam the strut body. Sounded like I was driving a stake side flat bed truck!!! Really impressive!!!

Take them off!!
