I've got a 96 contour in need of an engine swap. The best deal I can find is a low mileage 98. Appearantly there are some differences in the intake, I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just do a straight swap or would need to re-use the 96 intake & sensors?

The biggest difference was with the 95 engine. There is very little if any difference between the 96 and 98. As long as you have both engines to work with, you should be OK in case you do find some monor changes.

Like Jim said, there are little differences between the two. The intakes are identical. It should be a very simple swap.

I did the same swap out and found that some of my sensor plugs were different and my intake was actually late 95 so it had the vacuum operated intake runner and not the electrically operated one. The biggest thing is to look over both engines real well while they are on the garage floor for any differences and make all the changes before it goes back in the car. Dont make the same mistake as I had and mis-match the only two plugs that have the same plug in they are the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor and make sure that the new engine comes with the wiring harness you will probably need something off of it sooner or later. The thing to remember is that it can be done but may require some minor mods.

Sounds good. Bought this car as a project, but can't find the time to work on it so I want the swap to go 123! Thank you everyone!
