The shifting is difficult for 2nd, and 3rd gears in cold weather. Since there's no transmission oil for manual car, what could be wrong?

There certainly is transmission oil for the MTX-75, though "fluid" is the more common term. The MTX-75 uses the same fluid as automatics, but there's a friction modifier available from Ford that you can add (called the "Tranny Cocktail") that can help smooth shifting. It sounds like you might want to look into that unless you're having synchro problems. Read here for more info.

My headache is more on the 2nd and 3rd gears (all happen in very cold days though) instead of the 1st as described in the 'howto'.

Hmmm.... It may be a sign of a problem, then, but I'm not familiar at all with the Contour MTX (how I wish I were!) other than what I've read about here. You could also try asking in the Transmissions forum if you don't get a qualified reply here.

If you're running your manual car without transmission oil, I suspect that is the problem.

Allow me rephrase, 'since never heard of transmission oil change for manual car'.;-)
Or to rephrase the question: Is there anything specidal about the 2nd and 3rd gears, compared to 1st, 4th and 5th, that makes it especially difficult to be shift into in cold weather?

Is this happening when you first start to drive? I know that mine gets a little hard to shift when its cold out, but I've found that if I shift over 3K it's alright. That or I will double clutch, which sucks but works. After the car gets warmed up, everything is ok.

Yes, after warming up it's fine. I don't have a tachometer though. Are you saying it's normal? Originally posted by mike_823: Is this happening when you first start to drive?
