Why shift it manually? The computer is still gonna look at where you are trying to shift it and decide whether it wants to shift or not. IMO let the computer do the shifting......

i dunno about that....you can hold 1st, 2nd and 3rd (to the 107 cutoff for zetecs) gears a little longer..if you manually shift the gears you have control of when to shift just so as long you dont hit the rev limiter...the computer doesnt even try to shift, if you hit the rev limiter in first (which is somewhere around 40-44mph) you car starts to spit and sputter..until you shift into second...

and for adverse effects...it does put a strain on the tranny and i would recommened a tranny cooler (mine has a factory one) to keep the temps down and from dropping your tranny in the middle of the road...

Every ATX already comes with an oil-water cooler. Well I'm almost 99.9% positive that every car has an ATX transmission oil cooler, at least if it is a reputable car brand. YUGO??? They are incorporated into the stock radiator tank in most cases. Any ATX without one would fail relatively quickly due to high temp break down of oil and clutches. Maybe your transmission oil cooler helped make the parasitic losses lower on your engine so you were able to beat those much quicker cars.... j/k (take it easy) warmonger

well my understanding the contour comes with the CD4E Meaning electronics has ultimate control. Yes it will hold it a tad longer, but not much. I'm going off the experience with my 93 ATX SHO.... Yeah...well, I'm the silly 16 yr old who would put my ATX in first gear and just plant it and see how many revs I can put on the tach. I'm stupid like that. Well, nothing's wrong with my Contour (yet) but I've been to 7200 before the rev limiter decided to wake up (redline is 6725 as far as I know). Here's a rather silly question though: I dunno if it's my particular car, or if it applies to all ATX Contours, but mine won't go past 4500 in neutral when the car is still, but when I'm rolling, it will freespool right to redline. What's up with that? Are my electronics screwed?

No I'll go for a 3.0L. I hate Hondas. Thanks for answering the question though. Really helpful!

The engine redline does not just act when it wants to. It's hard programmed into the PCM code. There is no way it just WOULD NOT work!
