I just a simple question for people with headers is it worth the money to buy headers or gut the percats. And how much a difference is in headers and gut the precats. Is it worth the money or not against the percats. Thanks for the help trying to make a choice. Thanks.

Labor is about the same for both.
Headers are much more expensive.
Headers (I'm almost 100% sure) have been dyno proven to make more hp

I love my headers.
Hope that helps in your decision making.

Don't forget there may be state environmental regulations to deal with, that could hammer you either way. Does your state test your emissions or check your car's equipment?

How valuable is your money?

The headers will give you something to smile about after you put them on so the headers will have a sense of worth and not feel wasted. The pre-cat gutting will possibly do something but I am against it since I first gutted my precats and didn't get the benefits I wanted. Then I got headers and my low-end power was greatly improved!
No matter what anyone else says to me, I have proven to myself that a set of MSDS headers significantly out-perform gutted manifolds in a Naturally aspirated engine. I was not able to prove to myself that the gutted pre-cats were significantly better than non-gutted.
If you want to see some dyno proof, look in the dyno and drag section for "MSDS headers, dyno results" or something close to that, and you will find the links to my dyno runs that back my opinons. The comparison is exactly what you are asking about along with some more discussion.

(or I could say like some people do "SEARCH", but I'm against it. However they do have a point )

IMHO gut the pre-cats. I've got a 1995 V6 Mystique with 155k at the time of the run, with the original clutch no less, and I ran a 15.6 (2.63 60' time) @ 91mph with just a kkm, bat intake, gutted pre-cats and SHO y-pipe.

Before I gutted the pre-cats/SHO y-pipe I ran a best 15.88 @ 88 mph.

It's up to you....but I didn't have an extra $600 to spend.

What it comes down to is this:

If you have the money, buy the headers. If not, gut the manifolds until you do have the money IF you want to spend the time to do them. You can always sell your gutted manifolds for $50-$75 after you get the headers too...

Hey thanks everybody for the advice. I just wondering if the headers is worth the $600 and the labor to put them on. But the labor would be the same for both header or gutted cats. But im going to do one or the other. THANKS everybody for the replies.

emm... I think I have a reason to gut the extra set of manifolds sitting around now. I can also use something to practice welding on. Good deal!
