1 of the 2 bolts Holding the EGR Base to the intake manifold ..I stripped the head off it ...I bought a new EGR vavlve ..went to put it on and ran into this problem ...i believe I was using a 10 mm and i got one bolt off ..went to the second one (backside)and I did not completely strip the head off...it still has some corners ...just wanting to Know of any Tips or tricks to back that bolt out ??
Before i take it to the dealer i will try using a Craftsman 10 mm socket ..They usually do good .

1. try to drill the center of the bolt and use an easy out to remove bolt.

2. drill the complete bolt out and drill the threads on the other one and use standard thread heli-coils (thread inserts..and yes the work very well if done properly) (best solution)

I was just at sears last night and they have a new set of sockets to remove bolts with stripped heads. Like screw extractors inside out. Not cheap, but could prevent damage and headaches.

Ill try the WD-40 and A nice (not cheap) 10 mm Socket ...yes you are thinking 10 mm is 10 mm but a good 10 mm is Not made In China ..

There is also the tool advertised on TV as the Gator Grip. I've never used it, but it just might work...

I believe that I've seen this tool at Walmart.

Ill have to say i am going to go with the Easy Out bolt system from sears before i go with the gator grip ..thanks Alot though .

-Use a hacksaw to put a slot in bolt head, then use a screwdriver to get out.

-Use vice-grips.

-Use a file to create 2 new flat sides, then use open end wrench of appropriate size.

-Hacksaw, drill or file bolt head off, remove valve then use vice-grips on bolt stub to remove.

I presume you have already backed off the nut on the EGR valve-to-exhaust manifold-tube. EGR valve must be removed from tube without putting any pressure on tube which could loosen lower nut at exhaust manifold since access to that nut is extremely difficult.

LAST RESORT:
Conclude that the diagnosis leading to you wanting to remove EGR valve is faulty and re-install removed bolt.

As long as there are some corners left on the bolt, I'll almost gurantee a good 6 point 10mm will take it off. There is a whole lot more contact with the 6 point and it's damn near impossible to round off the head with one.

bolt out from Sears made by craftsman worked fine ...
backed the bolt out with no problem
