I take my 98 ford contour zetec.. to ford..i knew they wanna gonna try and be shiesty on me so i posted this on ceg . the only 2 mods that have anything to do with my catalytic converter are my intake and my exuast.. 3 inch intake and 2 1/4 piping for my exaust.. FORD TRIED TO TELL ME... THAT MY WARRENTY IS VOIDED(8yr/80,000 mile)FOR MY CAT BECAUSE OF MY INTAKE???? I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT.. BUT it sounds like total BS to me .. i need to know what to tell them when i go to get my car.. they tested it and said it was the catalysts...or whatever..and somethign about my intake changing my a/f ratio or something.. so they couldnt change it.. ? and he told me that it cost like 800 bucks to get the catayists from FORD???? HELP

Ford did not tell you that, your Ford dealer did. There is a difference.

go to www.sema.org and read everyhting related to the Magnussen-Moss act. then go back to your dealer. They have to prove that the intake caused the failure. Now it is possible that it did, depending on exactly what you have done, and how you have done it. If it is the fault of the aftermarket intake, then you are 100% responsible for the repair, not Ford, or your Ford dealer. But, if the intake (or other aftermarket modification) is not the cause of the problem, then it should be covered under warranty.

I'd just buy a header and be done with it.

You are correct that ford did not void my warrenty...i apoligize for the mis-worded phrase....however on the ford dealership did void my warrenty.. NOW as the follow up goes.. i went to fold with the moss-ferg... and they had me call up in michigan.. and talk to someone from up there... and then from there they called out a district rep.. and right now im waiting on the word from the district... i dunno if i will get to talk to this guy directly or what.. they didn't even tell me the steps to making the decision now.. so im just waiting..

OK.. now i did all that they talked to a regional rep.. and he says my warrenty is voided to..that means the FORD told me my warrenty is void.. so.. i still have no proof that my intake caused the problem however i still have a voided warrenty on my cat.. matter of fact the regional rep can't be overturned...at least they told me that when i had to call michigan.. he says "call the epa maybe someone from there can help you pay for it".. so now that this is all said and done.. im not gonna pay $800 for a new cat.. and thas that..i will just be running with a gutted cat for a while i guess..until i get a header.. and i will be catless then.. so ford can kiss my a$$..

You got lucky, I took mine to a shop and ended up paying $1200.00. It started from tune-up to a new catalyt converter. Just rescently found out what really happened.
