The bent metal part fits into the plastic part with the bend away from you(as you look at the switch from the front-as in how it fits onto the steering column)The bend actually fits into the back of the hazard switch and locks it into the down position. You need to put the metal rod in to the plastic piece with the rod going up into the back (as close to the back of the switch assembly as poss.- only two ways it can fit) Insert the spring, you have the spring still right?, onto the spur iside the switch; put the switch onto the spring and, with the switch upside down, with one finger ensure that the metal rod is vertical and another finger push the hazard button into the multi-function switch. This is easier than it sounds-I just cant seem to put it into a more simpler play by play! (Maybe should do this before the pub)
Good luck.
P.S. In my switch the circuit board was coming away from the main housing of the hazard switch so I'll experiment to see if some crazy glue to hold it in place will make any difference.
