Last time I saw water get in contact with the reflective material inside the headlamp the results were less then desireable. Short term the optics werent quite as shiny as normal. Then the reflective material started cracking, then peeling until the lamps were useless. Granted this was on a GM, but I would think the same would apply to a Contour. I did do that and it worked great almost no effort to seperate them.
