OK guys and gals; I have checked the archives carefully. Problem: I have noticed what I believe to be the transaxle mount (large verticle donut at center rear on Zetec w/MTX transaxle) being broken. The mount center bolt is sitting low, and their appears to be a break in the center unit to the outer "rubber". Questions: 1) what mount is this? and 2) what is involved in it's replacement? I did see in the archives reference to a "guage" for the front mount. Educate me group, please.

This is a common problem on these cars. Replacement is easy on the mtx. Cost will probably run around $50, more or less. Once you get under the car, you can change one out in half an hour or so. After you've done it a time or two, you can do it in 10 minutes.

The best way is to put the car on ramps so you can get under it, use a bottle jack with a piece of wood on top, to slightly life the transmission/motor. Lift it just enough to take the load off of the mounts. Remove the center bolt that goes horizontally through the mount, then remove about 3 bolts that hold the mount in place, take the mount out, and put the new one in. No problem.

Thanks a million for clear instructions. Couple of questions: 1)what is the name of this mount? 2) why the apparently high failure rate? 3) are there after market mounts that are desirable? 4) I saw in the archives that some prefess that one of the Duratec mounts work as a direct replacement (same Ford pn#)? 5) If #4 is true, would an aftermarket urethane mount be the preferred replacement?
