Whats up everyone I need help big time. I'am trying to change my head gasket and I'am having noyhing but trouble just getting the head off. I used the star bit to remove the head but the dam thing just broke off in the nut. I also noticed that the bolts under the the cams are different. They look likethey are hex but I can't tell, and the Hayes book sucks. I need to get this done ASAP so that I can get on the road. I also decided to port and polish the head while I had it off but I can't even get the dam thing to come off. Any help will be well apprciated.

Right click \ Save as... It's from the Ford DVD. I can't help you much beyond that.

I think you are talking about a torx head bit... I had probs with this, the bits would bend ant twist under torque... Sears don't sell a large enough bit, and the autoparts stores all sell crappy ones that break, however Kragen autoparts(and their affiliates I would imagine) sell the bits that are strong enough and get the job done right. You will most likely need to loosen the cam shafts to get to those bolts, and MAKE sure you have bought new head bolts, they aren't reusable. If you need any more help just ask, I've done this job and know what you are going through!!

Yeah I've done it to in 20 degree weather. ouch. I dont thin its back together right, but it runs so I dont care anymore, its beat up, all the money is going to the 3.0. Some help dont be as dumb as I was and try to get off the intake and exhaust manifolds before you pull the head out you waste countless hours unloosening bolts nuts and tryign to wiggle the manifold off the studs in the head with the clearence available. I'am wondering why aren't the head bolts reusable. They should be sturdy enogh to go back the same way that they came out. The Ford mechanic that sold me the gasket said that the job would be tedious but I shouldn't run into any major problems.

Read the document I linked you to. It tells you they are torque to yield.

You might not want to take off the head bolts in 20 degree weather.

Because they get tightened to the point that the metal undergoes some significant stress. Do the same again and they may no longer be strong enough.
