Chalk this one up to partly bad luck, partly my own stupidity.

The right side skirt on my SVT has been a little loose lately. At the very front end of the skirt is a molded plastic hook that fits around a plastic pin that is inserted into the plastic lining of the front wheel well.

About 6 or 8 months ago, I noticed that the molded plastic hook was cracked and the (longer) top end of the hook was not very secure - thus ensuring that the whole hook had a less-than-snug fit around the plastic pin. For the moment, I figured it was fine, and it was.

Flash forward to northern New York State in mid-January. Driving to work, of course brown slush built up between the tire and the inside of the front wheel well, and there's nothing you can do about that. When I got to work (I park in an indoor garage that is usually above freezing, but not by that much), I used the toe of my boot to dislodge some of the slush in the wheel well in order to speed along the melting/cleaning-out process. Well, I kicked a bit too hard, thus finally breaking off the rest of the molded plastic hook at the front of the side skirt.

Now the skirt doesn't want to stay attached to the plastic pin in the wheel well, and the front end of it (say, from the front jack point forward) is sort of sticking out to the side at a somewhat precarious angle, as there is no tension to hold it in place. I can re-fasten the hook to the pin, but it will only stay for a limited amount of time before it pops loose again.

I'm kind of thinking "hot glue gun," at least as a limited-time fix, but was wondering what others might have faced a similar situation. And, assuming a worst-case scenario, how much would it cost to replace the right-side side skirt?

As always, many thanks in advance.

Try some of those electronics zip ties to secure your side skirt. Also known as "wire ties". If that does not work. You can order replacements skirts for about 60 bucks each, unpainted. I've replaced both of my side skirts. Also, Kragen and PepBoys should have replacement hardware (plastic) for mounting your side skirts. I bought some when I replaced my skirts. Those plastic fasteners are not meant to be reused. They get trashed when you remove them. Good luck!

Where can you get them for $60 unpainted? I need a passenger side one. Thanks, Jason D.

Try pop-riveting at the wheel-well end: worked for mine!
