i've noticed my custom exhaust smokes quite a bit. does this have something to do with one of the following?: running rich/lean as a result of an intake mod, my vortex muffler, not having a resonator, or a combination of any of them? it just seems really smokey. it's not black or blue smoke, just grey. any opinions?

Is it very smoky? Like white cloud behind when you drive?

Water vapor most likely.
My larger pipes do that for a while (in the cold weather) until the pipes warm up...

Bluish white smoke is usually oil. Dark smoke usually means rich mixture. Water vapor is generally white and relatively oderless. I'm not sure on the details, but I understand PVC intake tubing can cause problems. Is there anything in your name that matches your car?? If the exhaust is brand new, there will be coatings on the tubes and stuff that may take a day or so to completely "burn off".

yeah, my intake piping is pvc. do you think removing that would fix it? i've heard it can cause problems if it heats up, but that intake tract doesn't become all that hot. my exhaust system is months old now.

I've heard even minor heating can cause gases to be released that are bad for combustion and cats. Some wierd chemical mix with the air fuel mixture that makes it really bad for the engine and exhaust. Just what I remember seeing somewhere.

I have the same prob (way too much white smoke) on cold mornings. Like big white clouds especially when revs get above 3k! (stock exhaust). But it,..smells like too much exhaust. Can't really explain now but i'll be watching this thread when I can

How long have the new pipes been on? It sometimes takes as long as two or three weeks for the shipping oil to fully burn off new exhaust parts.

PVC pipe is only good up to about 70 or 80 deg C.
