While checking a friend's Cont V6 for idle trouble (see Troubleshooting forum) I noticed a small belt and pulley system in the back of the front cylinder bank (above the transmission). I've never seen that before. What is it?

having the waterpump in the back is pretty cool. i remember changing the water pump on my mr2 and it was a pain with it in the front of the engine. i bet a can do the water pump on my duratec in like 5 minutes. if you dont include the tool hunt time wasted in my garage.
