Are there any alternative mufflers that have the same design as supertrapps? I like the tunable option.

They look really cool too.

I was also wondering if these are going to give me the hp that I want. I like the straight through design, but is this really ideal for our cars?

No muffler will give you the horsepower you want. Only real engine mods along with exhaust mods will give big horsepower. Do a full open intake with a completely custom exhaust and throw in headers while you are at it...this will give good power increases.

Well the headers should be on their way shortly.

As for custom exhaust, I asked a few questions but never got a straight answer. I still haven't decided to go 2" or 2.25" mandrel piping.

I just don't want to layout a grand to find out that I could have done better. I mean for that price I should just let it ride on the ponies (greyhounds down here ) and get the turbo.

It was so much easier to get hp gains from my mustang. I guess thats what I get for buying a 6 banger.

On a side note: why didn't ford put the 3.0 SHO Yamaha engine in these cars? Or wasn't there a 3.4 V8. I mean they already had the technology and they knew the hp stats. Obviously, the 3.0 fits in the contour. I know that neither engine produces a whole lot of horsepower but why downgrade. Sorry, just talkin out my a$$ .

1. I take it you mean mandrel bent true duals. 2" is ideal

2. $1000!!! Are you having this exhaust custom built be a (RICH!) shop that HAS a mandrel bender or making it from pre-existing mandrel bends?
The first I could understand the price as the mandrel bending machines cost a fortune (I.E. recouping their cash outlay) though I have yet to find a shop that actually has one.
The latter is a total rip off! I bought all the parts for mine for $275 (labor by me ) Well soon to be labor by me - when it gets warmer & I can leave the garage open!

3a. For one; Why??? For two; neither of the afore mentioned engines would fit.
3b. No Yamaha did. It was many years out of production & NO it does not fit. A 3L Duratec engine fits. ...and yes...

I expected that!!

I knew that I would get flamed for it but I wanted to know why ford would go to a new design rather than use a design they already had that worked.

The exhaust price includes the headers and all mandrel piping as well as the supertrapps.

He said 3.4L V8.

As in the Duratec based V8 used in the last generation SHO.

What about labor? Are you doing it all yourself?

Because just the parts you listed alone equal easily $1200. (Headers ($600-650), Down pipes ($100 or $50+ worth of mandrels), 2x flex joints ($50), 2x resonators ($50), 2x trapps ($250+), mandrel bends ($100+), and piping ($25) Add $150 more if you want cats too.

If you are having a shop do all is this expect closer to $2000 including the labor.

Let me list the prices so it doesn't look like I am lying.

Mandrel bends: 100 ($88.62 from jcwhitney; no one does mandrel bends down here)

Headers: SHO SHOP price $550.00 (no y pipe)

Supertrapps: $100.00 each = $200.00 (thats what I paid )

NO Cats: "FREEBIE"

Labor and extra piping: "FREEBIE" The man that rents me space for my business does exhaust work. We made a deal!

That makes the total $850.00 and still leaves me with enough to buy cats if I really wanted them.
