OK, I know you guys are probably getting tired of answering question about exhaust. I just want to know one more question. I am about to order the mandrel piping from jcwhitney. Total price for all bends needed is about 100.00 for tru duals.

This is my question. Will 2" exhuast be alright for mandrels or should I go 2.5"? Which will get me more hp? I am going to be getting straight flow through mufflers (glass packs?). Is this good?

Oh yeah on a side note. I went to a local exhaust shop to get a price to have the exhaust put on and they told me that the main cat is not needed. They said because we have pre cats on the headers, that the second cat is just reducing horsepower. Just so you know this is a very respectable exhaust shop here in town. They also do state inspections. Just wanted to make sure this is true for the state of TX.

Two sets of 2" pipe will be sufficient. @.5" would be way too big, and in any case you would never fit 2 2.5" pipes around the tank....

(I am in no way arguing the fact that the main cat is restrictive or saying that I wouldn't do this if I could)
As long as you know they will pass your car when it comes inspection time. Here in Plano it would pass this year because all they do for emissions is hook up to the computer, next year they are supposedly going to start looking under the car. I have been told a few times that the rule in TX is that no cat can be removed from the car legally, it can be replaced, but not removed. Now the question is, will you ever have any problems from removing it? In the city, maybe...(mainly because shops won't touch the cats) in the country, I highly doubt it. From what I understand you would have to run across someone at inspection time that knows the car is supposed to have 3 cats and not 2.

I have 2.5" pipe for my single exhaust, I couldn't imagine trying to fit dual pipes that size. As far as glass packs, I had them and disliked them. The sound was not consistant and it just did not "feel" right. I have now switched to a magnaflow and love it.

Thanks for the comments. I plan to move to Dallas and I have heard about their strict inspections so I am not sure I will get rid of it.

I am mainly concerned with hp. Will I lose hp by going with a smaller piping? Will I gain anything by going bigger?
