I was there once. Asking questions, when the "search" key was right there staring me in the face the whole time. I then got a lot of flack and links to the search feature. But I repented and use the search key every time before asking a question.

Is there anyway to have a screen come up that says, "Have you tried the search function before posting this new topic?" Yes, add new topic. No, a direct refresh to the search function.

Sure people can say, hi, welcome to CEG and the like, but all of these new people that are chased off, it gives this board a bad name.

FWIW, I did search this topic also.

I think people need to stop whining about it. I mean really, who cares!! It has to be one of the most pointless things to argue about, and, the posts like this one, are becoming more anoying than posts repeating common questions. Oh yeah, the search feature on this site reeks, don't get me wrong, I love contour.org, but the search stinks. It takes forever, especially searching through several forums. Besides, site traffic is good....if people get help they spread the word. If they get b*tched at they don't. Not to mention how slow the forums would be if everyone searched for things first.

Personally I think it's a shame that people have to post "yes I searched" or "please don't hit me massa" just to avoid the public whipping of POSSIBLY asking a question that MAYBE someone with 17,000 posts has seen a few times. Let 'em ask fer chrissakes.

Seriously... I agree with everyone, we are a group, and as a group we should be here to help one another, so if they have a question and its been asked before, big deal, give them a da** answer or else just leave it alone. Cant we all just get along. laugh

As some would like to say, "GET OVER IT" As previously stated, these boards exist so that we can communicate, talk, BS, and question one another. Sure I'm sure someone, at some point in time has asked similar questions, but just searching for the response, never asking a current opinion, view, etc. is just a waste of the boards. If this is the way that you like it, just start up a huge Contour FAQ page and never let anybody question what's listed there. Besides, the search is a valuable tool, but does the same tool always work for every job?

Try telling that to a member with a triple digit number. They have earned the right not to have to see those questions IMO. Hang around a little longer and it will annoy you too.

Now, how people handle that annoyance is a different matter all together...

You've GOT to be kidding me. Earned the RIGHT? Since nobody has to pay any dues or membership fees whatsoever, you think you or anyone else has earned the RIGHT to not have to even see those questions? What a crock of **** on so many levels. What constitutes "those kinds of questions"? Why don't you post about that so we can all argue about it and inflate our post counts so we can earn the "right" to ignore such ridiculous topics. You want the RIGHT not to see such questions it's as easy as closing your eyes and, failing that, start your own ****ing website that says "no newbies allowed" on the front page. Unbelievable. And before you accuse me of newbie-itis I've been visiting here for 2 years and have posted literally thousands of posts on another car enthusiast site over the course of almost 7 years so I know the repetitive posts can be annoying but what's 10x more annoyhing is some self-inflated "veteran" asserting they have the "right" not to look at "those" kinds of questions. If I wasn't so pissed off right now I might be pissing myself with laughter at your arrogance.

You might want to check my member number. I said three digit members, I have four.

Thanks for playing.

I never said anything about post count.

Oh and while we're on touchy subjects...

Trim you sig, its way out of control.

Oh, OK, semantics. Your point is still the same and still asinine in its arrogance. My comments all still stand. And while you're busy playing busy-body about who's allowed to post what why don't you enter a new one about how you've posted so much you've earned the right not to look at long sigs? Then you'll have fully earned the right to suck my ****.
