I have a 2000 Contour Sport, and have been looking around at speakers, and I was thinking of getting either the Pioneer TS-A6867, or the Rockford Fosgate HPC2268 (both I saw on sounddomain.com). They both seem pretty good, and pretty well priced. Does anyone have any other recommendations on speakers before I purchase these? I don't know what exactly I should be looking for when I buy speakers.

I currently am just using the amp in my deck (45Wx4), but am planning on getting a "real" amp later (once I get some more money). How do I tell if I have the factory amp so that I can bypass it (I have seen that mentioned a few times here )

Also, how do I remove the door side panels, so I can get to the speakers to install them, and what kind of tools will I need to put the door back on. I installed speakers in my last car (a Pathfinder), and the door panel just popped off and popped back on, so I am hoping it is similar.

If you had the cassette player stock and the doors say stereo you do not have a factory amp.

Steph (Joel4Prez)has the Pioneer's in her 98. No complaints on the sound quality!
Easy install with the wiring harnesses. The door panels were a pain with all the screws, but overall it took me about 30 minutes total to install the 4 speakers and remove/replace the door panels.
Check Yahoo shopping for their prices. Got a good price (much better than Crutchfield) on her Pioneers.

I have an Alpine CDM-7874(50Wx4) head unit in my '99 Sport with a Polk EX-368 speaker in each door. They sound really great. The speakers take around 40 hours(per Polk technical support) to break in and sound their best. I've found this to be true. I'd recommend Crutchfield since they send you wiring harnesses which will plug directly in to you factory harnesses. On their web site, they will show you what fits in any car. It's pretty cool. They also send illustrated instructions and have lifetime technical support for everything. I have a referral number which will get you $20 off your first purchase. I installed the four speakers in about an hour and a half. cThomp21's post has the Crutchfield instructions linked in his post.
