I have a 1998.5 SVT and on the bottom rear end of the car is the return fuel system or something. Its right under thr trunk, a black metal cover covering something. Well the metal plate that was on the bottom of my car fell off and was dragging for several blocks (4 - 15's in the trunk bassing so I didn't hear the noise) and it eventually fell off and flew down the highway. Meanwhile I have a unconnected return fuel system hanging from the back of my car. It appears to be broken and I think I need a new hose ... I think! Does it hurt my car if it is not hooked up. Pros-cons?? Should I ruch to the shop right away to get this fixed or does it matter? Please give some advise if you have any. THanks! Jared

Fuel flows through the return lines most/all of the time. So, yeah, if the return lines are damaged, you should not drive the car until they are fixed. You should also replace the protective hardware so that running over debris (none on the roads here in MI, but I hear that some places aren't as spotless  ) doesn't damage/re-damage the fuel lines.

That is the vapor management system, you 'lost' the carbon canisters.Yes it will affect performance as the 'fumes' are bled into the the intake manifold during 'purge' mode.....plus the fact your gas tank now 'vents' to fresh air.....watch the smokers around your car!!!

Yeah, get it fixed before you have a fire. An open fuel system is nothing to fool with.
