Hi, I wanted to get help or advice and my search of the archives wasn't working. So the car runs well enough, but when its cold after driving on the highway, the idle wanders all over the place, from 2k down to ~150 and then back up. Sometimes it doesn't catch itself and the car stalls. It also recently started moosing. 96 SE MTX w/~80k. I am changing the fuel filter this weekend just 'cause and I found a damaged plastic tube in the rear of the engine compartment I am going to replace. Any other hints or suggestions? I have seen a lot of posts about the IAC, can this be tested? Thanks in advance for the help.

This weekend it will get a fuel filter, a pvc filter and the vacum pipe that looks like it comes from the PVC is damaged and that will get replaced. Its getting air, I think its getting good spark though the plugs might get replaced just because. Any other suggestions?

If you have a large vacuum leak (like, say, the PCV), it could cause severe idle stability problems. Replace that stuff that you've already identified, reset the engine control computer, and see if the problem is fixed.

Besides looking for a vacuum leak, clean the throttle body and the IAC. A sludged up throttle body and IAC can also do this.

Wow, the fuel filter made a huge difference in performance in general. The PVC and the broken PVC line I found will be replced when the parts come in on Wednesday. There was a note in the manual about not cleaning the throttle body because it had a teflon coating or something. I there a special cleaner to use? Thanks for the help and recomendations.
