To tell you the truth, I didn't really like SUVs either not too long ago. But when I had a chance to sit in one, enjoy the view, features, comfort and power ... well ... let's just say it's far more suited to where I'll be living and future than a ZX2.
The ZX2 will probably outshine the Explorer in the summer, but now I can actually put stuff in the back of our other car, like groceries! That, and I can haul my luggage around now without having to remove any stereo equipment. This sport truck will also handle the snow (Barrie saw the sun for the first time in 6 weeks yesterday!! yay!!) a lot better. And of course, the truck will definitely be one of those rare ones that actually goes
off the road!
I still have my 17" wheels (they're on the car right now), but I have sold some of my old 5.0L parts. I don't have time to strip my engine down unfortunately, so I won't be able to get rid of any of the "good bits" yet.
It's a different world between Maverick and Explorer Rich, trust me. The Escape is a car chassis with a truck body, the Explorer is a truck through and through. I'm happy with it, apart from the gas mileage which will get better the more I drive it (have to get used to driving a truck). So far, I'm on par with the CAFE Ratings. I would be afraid to use an Escape out west so far. Perhaps on my next turn-around I'll get a smaller SUV, but I know now one will always remain in my driveway.
I'm counting the days until I can have the keys to my Jag now. Looks like about 700 to go, or 23 more payments on my tour.
Here are some pics of the new truck:
