hello my mother owns a 1995 mercury mystique its a V6 and lately its been making a strange buzzing noise which seems to come from the engine compartment. the noise is quite loud inside, and very loud outside and sounds like a loud humm or bumble bee. It only does it like every 10 minutes and usually after you apply the breaks, or slow down and lasts until you reaply the gas. my dad looked under the hood the other day, and the noise he said was coming from near the air intake and was actually shaking the filter housing. He took it in and had the PCV Valve replaced and stuff but it still makes the noise. what could this be? oh yeah its cold where i live with lots of snow on the road, if that make a difference?

It sounds to me like the ABS (anti-lock brake system)is performing as advertised...that hummm is the ABS controller "pulsing" the brakes to prevent wheel lockup on snowy roads...a good thing!

Or..."The Moose"!

Does it sound like a giant moose? This is the common noise the V6 cars make. (And it's LOUD).

There are a couple of things you can try if it does, but if it started all of a sudden I'd suspect the IAC.
