Since I have this beautiful fiberglass hood sitting here, I got to thinking after some replies were made on my other post. I have and idea of how I want to mak a heatshield but dont know if it will allow sufficent enough air to the intake. I would build a heatshield to cover every side except the top(hood) side. Then mold some type of seal into the underside of the fibrglass hood so when the hood closes it would make a totaly seald box under a cossworth vent (which will be molded in the hood), so the only air would be coming in through the vent. Will this work or could I also make a tunnel from the fender and have it coming into the fender side of the heatshield?

Sounds like a nice heatshield, might look kinda like this one. . . . Heatsheild I am assuming that there is adequite air coming in with the seal up top.

Problem is, if the vent openings face towards the cowl, and the under side of the hood is sealed air will draft away from the intake. Not that it would reduce the air intakes ability to pull, but you would be creating a negative pressure zone around the intake.

The main purpose of a rear facing vent is to draft cool air up into the engine bay and out thru the hood. If you seal an airbox to the hood with the vents drafting away there would be no real benefit, unless you had a duct coming up from beneith the car that plugged into the bottom of the air box. This would allow the air moving quickly across the hood to draft air from the vent, which would have been pulled up from the ducting under the car.
