Hey guys...on my way home tonight when about 1/2 mile from my house my passenger side front brake caliper decides to lock-up!!! Since I am close to home I decide to drive slowly the rest of the way. When arriving home, I inspect the brakes and notice that my rotor is glowing bright orange and a few flames are coming from my brake pads/caliper eek !!! Anyone have any experience with this phenomenon???

Time for new brake pads! You were grinding metal on metal man, not cool!

dude that does NOT sound good. same thing happened to my housemate in his SHO. the metal flakes from the grinding got all over his wheels. they were practically welded on!! looks like you'll be needing more than just a set of break pads!

At the minimum.

Set of Pads, 2 rotors, caliper, brake hose, complete fluid flush...

Do not even think about skimping on such an important piece of safety equipment...

And keep in mind that for every brake component you replace on the passenger side, you need to replace the corresponding component on the driver side as well.

Moonlight Blue 1996 Mercury Mystique GS , Zetec engine, ATX.  No mods. (Well, OK, one mod.  Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios.  I liked the Tempo's radio better.  That counts as a mod, doesn't it?  I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare.  I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars.  Does this count as a mod?  If so, I guess I have two mods.  Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)
