Its nice to see that contour.org is open again. I thought it was closed for good. Glad I checked!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has had a problem with headlights and interior lights dimming when the bass hits. I just started noticing this problem. I have 2 jl audio 12w6's presenting a 6 ohm load at about 320 watts rms to a mtx amp. I didn't think that this would put to much of a strain on the battery but I guess it is. Would it be better to buy a cap or a new battery. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Matt

Neither

At the power you're running, simply replacing the alternator cable with 4 guage, then replacing the battery's ground wire with the same will eliminate it. I am using a 300W continuous Alpine amp with another 180W phoenix Gold amp and my lights never dim, even when trying to hit my max SPL at the shop back home. Cheap, fairly easy if you have some tools and some ramps/jackstands. I used to use a capacitator and I had more dimming with the CAP than I do without it and upgraded wires.

audio technician here...a red top battery will fix it on a large scale, and even a half farad cap would fix it let alone a whole farad. farad caps should run about 50-100 dollars depending on what size you get. you do not need anything with digital meters on it so dont get swallowed into that mess.

hmmmm I rember seeing this happen with my friends car but then again he was pushing 3000watts so hehe yeah I think he solved it with the 15farad cap. but hey whatever it takes to power 2 15" alpine typeR's shits loud surprised his car is in one peice. Just keep a eye on things dont want to loose an alternator.
