Anyone had troubles causing a hissing/vacuum leak noise on the engine? I've had probs with rough idle and just yesterday she almost stalled coming to a light. I've hired a master detective(my ear) to figure where the leak is and it's near the fuel line sensor directly above the RH motor mount. What exactly is that sensor? Any help?

Any help? Picture of the sensor anywhere? Right hand side as seated or as looking at the engine from the front facing the rear of the car? Hummmmmm, you mention fuel lines... Must be driver's side... Is the hissing coming from the silver disc looking thing with the two fuel lines attached to it and a vacuum port on top? That's the fuel pressure regulator if so...

Thanks for the replies. It's the RH side of the car - always sitting in the seat. I am borrowing this link below to show you what i'm talking about. Scroll down to the third pic(engine). Look upper-left of the pic, over the motor mount is the sensor with the green. THat's where it sounds like the leak is. http://www.contour.org/cgi-ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=40&t=000133

The sensor with the green hat is the power steering pressure sensor. The PCM speeds up the idle when it senses high pressure, ie:turning the wheel when parking. That doesn't usually hiss. Maybe something else in the area.

Don't believe there are any vacuum lines under the sensor. Two weeks ago, I started hearing a hissing coming from the engine compartment(heard it from inside the car) when turning the wheels..say in a parking lot.
If this sensor is faulty, could the engine miss at idle?

Nope, the pas sensor only acts as a 'throttle kicker',if you are sure the hiss on on that side of the motor it could be an intake manifold air leak......

Are you sure it is indeed a vacuum leak, and not the power steering pump hissing/whining?
You stated that you heard it when turning the steering wheel during parking maneuvers, which leads me to believe it is a power steering condition.

The hiss is always apparent when running and more noticable when the engine goes from smooth idle to miss. The steering noise only happened the once after hard acceleration during on-ramps.
The engine does miss-noticable not only standing over the engine hearing it...but inside through the steering wheel, seat, pedals obviously.
I'll check again as to location of the hiss. TY

Must be an intake manifold leak...thanks Terry.
Obviously that could be the miss in the system. How much do the gaskets cost, as i've no problem with completing the labor myself?
