well I was looking at my car today and you cant fit 3in hose in the fender so I ran mine down by the fans and just put the filter down there but you will want to add a second small filter in front of the screen you have for your intake to stop an possible water entering the engine otherwish you will be in a world of hurt cause last time I checked water isnt compressible

Just to let you guys know, BAT makes one that comes with the tube. And Technicaly that is not Ram Air, un less the actaull filter itself is enclosed in an air tight seal box.

If you look at a Comaro SS Ram Air system, when the hood closes then it forms a seal around the filters and the only way air can get in is through the Hood scoop. Thus there is no loss of pressuer and you get the full effects of the cooler, high speed air.

As far as I know threre is no true Ram Air conversion has been done. And from the way some of the Veterans of the site talk, its not something that would help very much.

But the system you guys are talking about is still concidred Cold Air.

Ram air is a pipe dream on any street car. Nice marketing ploy though.

Yes the setup you describe is nice for supplying fresh cooler air to the filter when the car is moving.

BTDT.

First,
it does do something...

Second
I'm not sure it helps the contour. I had some driveability issues with the setup. When coasting above 20 MPH with no load the engine would stall.

I did have better throttle response at highway speeds and my fuel milage did go down. So I assume it did something.

To test I placed the car in my driveway, started it and let it idle a while (when it was at normal running temps) I then took a leaf blower and directed air at the scoop. It leaned out the engine and it stalled. This was repeated several times.

I removed my homemade scoop and attached my 3" tube to the sub frame and used it as cool air induction.

BTW I really just cut a 3" hole in the bottom of a stock SE air box, put a K&N drop in in the box, closed it up. Ran some flextube to the front bumper. I rigged up a temp scoop from a large kitty litter plastic bottle for testing and drove it around for 2 weeks.

No water problems as the air had to travel up amost 90 degrees to the road. If you can rectify the driveablity issues you may pick up a spare pony or two.. but only at highway speeds. I figure you will be lucky to get 1 PSI postive pressure total from under triple digit speeds.

ARGH!!!

people!! Ram air is not that important!! I see post after post wondering who has the best ram air or CAI setup!

Ram Air/CAI setup will not help alot. It will help a little - espcially at 70MPH+ - but not so much that you should spend over $50 homebrewing yourself a setup.

If you want POWER do REAL work to your engine (SVT TB/UIM/LIM, heads, cams, headers or gut-precats, exhaust, injectors, SAFC or E-manage, 3.0L swap, supercharger, turobcharger)

Actually to be perfectly honest if you have a ram air/CAI setup and haven't gutted your precats (how-to) then shake your head in shame. Gutting precats is worth $5 and good for real horesepower!

Anyone who thinks the best designed ram air/CAI setup ever is going to get them 15HP is dreaming. It is all about flow, if you don't work on everything else on the engine any setup is not going to do anything for you.

And contrary to popular belief having ram air/CAI is not the coolest thing ever.

But Ram Air is the coolest! I see it on every stylish Camaro SS and Grand Am GT. Those are the coolest!

ok....Ram Air is not styleish...Hood Scoop is stylish...But on thing is for sure. Ramm Air is not pratical, fo if it were a lot more people would be using it.

I agree, we should stick to the bolt ons not the pipe dreams.

OK well I did the cold air intake and I know that it will help a little on the compression side since cold air is less dense and more compressable... But my friend stolon has this Idea that is really easy to do to make the tour have true ram air. Now is this worth are time??? Are we just wasting are time with it or what... Remember it is True ram air.
