Ok so my mom thought it would be nice to buy my a new deck and rear speakers for my 19th birthday (August of 2001)... (This was for my 92 toyota tercel that had no rear speakers at all)... so she bought me a Jensen deck and 2 5 1/2" sony xplods. So after a little while my deck decided that it was a piece of crap. So we returned it and got a new one. I got a sony xplod deck. I think I've had it for about a year.

I installed my Sony deck into my SVT and just recently I noticed (in September) that my rear driver side speaker doesn't work. Well... then my front driver side speaker has decided that it wants to work a little tiny bit (not enough to really hear it though). So I thought I needed new speakers. BUT NO!! IT'S MY DECK!!! I am about to have 3 decks in less than two years. THREE DECKS!!!! Of course the Jensen... well... was crappy... but I like my sony deck. So now I'm mad and I don't want to drop the $150-$200 to get a new deck... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Sorry to hear about your problems. Next time just get an Alpine and you'll never look back. I will only buy Alpine decks, I made the mistake of buying a Sony a few years ago and it sucked, so many problems.

i too had a similar prob with the speakers in my tour...i only had one speaker working. had a friend of mine at the local audio store check and double check my wiring (previous owner hacked up the wires real good), the wiring was correct. turned out i had 3 blowed speakers. bought 2 sets of logic 5x7 and about an hour later i had sweet sound..my deck sucks (censored). for all 4 i paid 72 bucks..not to bad...and the highs and mids are so sweet..check the speakers. thats what it sounds like to me
****on a another note....when i bought the car i had a similar prob...2 speakers were workin...then one just faded out...my audio friend used some kind of tool thats battery powered that when hooled up to the speakers, made them 'thump' just a little...the one that was working 'thumped' the other 3 did not and he said usually that means the speakers are (censored). i thought it was my deck too..but it wasnt...hope this helps,,

Here's a tip: Don't buy Sony decks, amps or speakers. They carry a big name, but they really suck balls.

Do you have RCA pre-amp outputs on your SONY? If so, just buy a 4 or 5 channel amp ( Alpine 5 channel with built-in crossovers for $200), and quit running your system off of deck power. I don't recommend running on deck power anyways, because the amp section of the deck generates too much heat, and so does the laser of the CD reader head, not to mention the heater from the car's heater ducts are all under the dash too, creating extra heat. The Alpine amp would nestle nicely under the seat or in the trunk (way cooler). I'm running my 5 channel amp's 4 front and rear channels off of the STOCK front and rear Contour speakers (from the original Premium Sound option). Premium Sound option from Ford offered better than normal speakers with a mini amp from the factory (stock amp was junk, but Prem.Sound speakers are way better than I originally thought). But with 40 watts RMS to each speaker, those stock Ford speakers have been workin just fine, and sound clean still for over 4 years in my Contour. So, the way I figure, if you had the premium Sound option before, then all you'd need is a single 5 channel amp, and you could even add another sub (even if you already have one), as the 5 channel amps will power a sub channel with 120 watts as well! But with the separate amp, you'll get your temp down inside your deck, which means the CD player is less lkely to skip and malfunction. Also, when amps (ie inside deck) get real hot, they don't play as clean of sound. They tend to distort more and have a higher noise to signal ratio.

your problem is you bought a SONY Also check the speakers and the wiring. The harnes that conects the speakers to the wiring might be loose. The easyist way to check if its the speakers or the head unit is to test them. Use a battery and connect the + speaker to the battery and the corosponding - wire to the - side of the battery. If you hear a noise out of the speaker the is good otherwise the speaker or wiring is cooked. If your speakers are still good the buy a new head unit. (PIONEER all the way)
