I went to get in my wife's 96SE today and when I put the gearshift(automatic)into reverse, the plastic thing that indicates which gear you are in broke.anyone know how much to fix? I'm going to assume that there will be other parts to replace besides the one I need...any help is appreciated.

Got the list of recalls to check since I just bought a 95 SE. Recall No. 98V233000 date of 9/25/98 states the gear position indicator can deteriorate and lists this corrective summary:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL.

Hope this helps.

The dealer said that there WAS a recall on this part, but is no longer an issue.so,I ordered the part..you talk about chinsy...he showed me the one for a car that has a partial console as opposed to a full console(which I have).the piece that "slides" with the gearshift lever can't be more that .025-.030" thick...no wonder it broke.part cost me just under $50 with tax.
