I just bought the Pioneer 220w speakers that are especially made for Ford cars for my 2000 Contour. I haven't installed them yet because I had the wrong wiring harness attachment. I am very excited about them, especially after I saw how crappy the factory speakers look compared to my new ones. However, I have been reading some posts on the board and had some questions. I am still using the factory HU, so am I still gonna have the dimming effect when there is a lot of bass? I am hoping that this will be all I need to make my system sound better. But then, I found out about the factory Amp. I guess only the Premium sound systems had amps, and I took a look in my glove box and I do have the factory amp (even though my speaker doesn't say "Premium" on it). I have read that bypassing this amp will make the sound ...sound much better. Any comments on these concerns?

get an aftermarket HU and bypass the amp, bypassing w/ stock HU means you'll have no sound. my sony HU dims with bass hits.

Bypassing the factory amp is the only way to go.
