how hard is it to change the alternator on the 2.5 i think i migth have to be changing my alternator soon. cause the battery ligth comes on above 5,000 rpm and the battery doesnt seem to be dying out. it shows 14 volts from idle to 5,000 rpm and 13 volts above 5,000 rpm. is there any special procedure for changing the alternator that i should knwo about, and how much does one usualy go for?

I had the same problem. First it happened at 4500 rpm then 4000 and lower. Last friday was very lucky to get home (last 10km drived just on battery).
To take it out I was busy all Saturday, mostly scratching my head and thinking how to get to the bolts without removing driveaxle and Y-pipe.
It could be done with a lot of different extensions, good 1/2 socket and tonns of swearing!
In my case the brushes was so weared I never ever seen enything more messy in generators in my life (well, I'm still maybe too young). Friend of mine tried to take the alternator apart to clean the messy and bumpy rings on the lath and broke it (it is not desined for unassemblying at all!). So I got another one, but was forced to keep the voltage regulator of the old one, because those 3-pin terminals could be different (were in my case)!!
Tomorrow I will try to install it back and maybe will take some pictures.
Good luck.

Please do so! I know that several of us 2.5L owners would love to have this on hand!

I don't know if it will help or not but I took mine out from the wheelwell. All I had to do was disconnect the tie rod and remove the screws for the small plasitc pieces that are part of the fender lining and it came out relativly easy. The hardest part was getting the top bolt undone. Ford put this one in VERY TIGHT. Other than that it was easy. You just need to have a little patients and you will end up having to twist and turn it to get it out of that hole in the fender. If you have any questions you can PM me.

Thanks! I'll PM you before I start the R&R. The only thing I'm really worries about is removing the tie rod properly, since I have never done that.

Just take the nut off the tie rod end and then screw it back on until the nut is flush with the end of the stud then hit the nut straight up. Make sure that you hit it straight though.
