If I knew I had to do one, I would not like it. If you have to do it at home, at least invest or have all 4 wheels off the ground with jack stands.
One note of caution that I know sounds really dumb, but a lot of people forget to do before R&Ring a rack... Center the steering wheel, remove the key (do not allow the steering wheel to lock itself, this mean you have to move the steering wheel. You know when you remove the key and turn the wheel a little in one direction and the wheel locks. Don't allow this to happen!!) and find something to lock the steering wheel in the centered position, from inside the car.
Why?
If you don't have that steering wheel centered when you get that new rack in there, the alignment shop will send you back home and tell you to center it. This will mean that you will have to pull the rack again!!! Reason being, if it is not centered when in connect the spline of the steering column to the rack, you will never center the wheel through an alignment. If it is not too far off center, they "might" set your toe back into spec, but the wheel will possibly still be crooked as hell.
I did this one time... One Time!! Just a small note of caution!
