Last night when I got home, I forgot to turn off my lights. So I come out this morning and the battery is dead, so I go to Auto-Zone and get a loaner so that I can get my old battery charged. Well when I put in battery the car wont start. It doesn't even try to turn over, it just make a loud "clicking" sound. What is the problem????. I need to find out soon as I have to leave in about an hour. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe they loaned you a cratered battery? Did they test it before passing it over the counter? Contours are real fussy when it comes to batteries. When one cell weakens my engine barely turns over. Has to be 12.6 or better to crank.

They tested the battery before they gave it to me.

What with, the arc weld test or a pile load? I doubt the problem is with your car because it ran the night before. Can you get someone to just give you a jump and let your genny charge it up? You have a simple volt meter?
Are the battery connectors clean and tight? One loose clamp and it wouldn't transfer all the amps it needs to turn the engine.

Well I talked to the guy who tested the battery, and he said it tested at 12.0 volts. Sooo, I decided to just bite the bullet and get a tow truck to give me a jump. Thanks for the replies.

I can't believe how expensive batteries are for these cars. I looked at Sears lastnite for one for the 6000, which was $59.99 for the cheapest one, $69.99 for a Silver, and $79.99 for a Gold Die Hard. I looked up the Mystique, and it said that it needs an International battery "Specialized for BMW and Mercedes" which was $100 at the least. Are these cars seriously that "German"???

Go to Autozone, they had a middle of the road battery for like 55 dollars that has lasted in my sisters '97 Mystique for the past 2 years with no problems. It does take an odd group number battery (56 I think) but not that rare or unusual.
