I've already vowed that on the next non-raining day, I'm going to clean my car and wax it. I have a lot of those spider web/swirls in my paint job, and I really want to reduce them. I bought the Meguiars 3-step wax process awhile ago and I'm going to use a buffer. Do you think this is an effective way to get rid of/reduce the swirls in my paint job? Is there a better method/product to use?

I used the Mothers swirl remover and it worked pretty well.
Im a Meguires fan, though. You will like the results. Be careful with the buffer, Im too chicken to use one

If its only swirls then use whatever wax you like personally the best. 3m finesse it, or even the over rated Maguires is ok. If you have paint checking (spider web) you are in for a complete paint strip and repaint. Good luck.

if your buffer isnt 7500rpm then I wouldnt use it. most little ones you get at wal-mart are only like 3500 and they just make the swirls worse if you ask me.

Oh, I got a b*tch-ass buffer. (That means it spins really fast). Not one of those cheap Wal-Mart ones.

Static you must like burning paint beacause if you use a 7500 rpm buffer thats exactly what your going to do. The recommeded buffer speed for buffing clearcoat painted metal surfaces is 1700-1800 rpm. The speed for buffing the plastic bumpers should be 1200-1250 rpm this is due mainly because of the softness of the paint on the bumpers due to the flex agent added to the paint to allow the bumper to flewx without cracking the paint. I use buffers on cars pretty much every day and I would suggest getting a variable speed one so you can adjust the rpms. I personally use a milwakee model buffer and its rpms range from 0-3800 rpm and I have yet to have used it going full blast with the thing.

ok maybe I am thinking of something else then but I know that those POS things you get at walmart dont work for schitt and they add swirls. I personal have a cheap walmart one that I never use and I have used a nice one before and it worked great. but I could have swore that it was 7500rpms though. btw I am LMAO at the burning the paint thing

You guys must be using some really wierd sht to be buffing with. You should be buffing with 2000-3000 rpm depending on your knowledge of buffing. Sorta sounds like you need to be in the 800-900rpm range as to not hurt anything Dont forget to use a foam waffle pad to polish with.

I just looked, and my buffer goes at 2500 rpm. I guess that sounds about right then.

"Overated" Meguiars, what do you use Simoniz/KIT/Finish 2001 Mequiars has products specially formulated for swirl marks, just hit their website www.meguiars.com Personally I'd try some scratch-X or their swirl remover. This looks like another wax post, but if I were you and the car is that over due, try this:

1. wash the car real good
2. clay bar-A MUST Thanks again Aaron!
3. scratch-X
3a.cleaner wax/body scrub/Premium paint cleaner
4. polish (#7)
5. wax- big selection here

If your not one to do your car alot, I suggest using the Medallion Premium Paint protection. If thats a bit too $$$$ for your tastes, go with the #26 Hi-Tech Yellow wax. PM me if you have any questions about Meguiars, I detail cars on the side and use their products proudly and exclusively I guess the 3 step Meguiars in the maroon bottles is ok, but personally I've never went that route. I like the Professional products they offer. They're a bit more $$$$ but worth it IMO. "Smart guys finish best, Meguiars!"
