I bought the car used and it has always had his problem. The spedometer reports about 10 mph slower than I am really taveling. I have proof due to a speeding ticket. I have known in the past becuase of those road speed things that show how fast you are going.

The point is, the dealer said it would be over $500 to fix!?!?! No way am I giving those aholes anymore money. The needle used to woble a bunch so they said they "lubed up the cable." which fixed the wobling but still doesnt report the correct speed. That alone cost me 32.50!! For a cable lube job!! They need to be put in jail.

Anyway, anyone know how to fix this? Do I need to find another spedometer at a local junkyard? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Do you have over-size tires? Is it always off 10 mph, or does the speed discrepancy get worse as you are going faster?

size 195 instead of 205 size tires will throw your speedometer off by aprrox. 10MPH. I know from experience.

the speed discrepancy definetly gets worse at higher speeds. Its gradual, like 5 MPH at 20-30 MPH then like 10 MPH at 50-60. I just had new rims and tires installed by Discount Tire, and the problem still exists. So the tires are the right size.

If you have bigger rims and tires than your old stock ones yeah. If they're the same size, it shouldn't be off. People usually put bigger tires and rims on their cars. If it it witht the same tiz tires, take it somewhere and have it checked out.
